What is a product line?

A product line is a collection of products, that has close relations with each other, offered to a market by the same manufacturer or distributor.

For example, the products of sanitary paper products such as toilet paper, napkins, towels, box wipes, and tissue paper make a product line.

Generally, a product line is offered under a single brand name. Their functions are very similar. Their target market and distribution channel are also close.

Making product lines is a marketing strategy. Because it’s easy to reach an existing consumer with a new product offered under the same brand.

Hmm, are you thinking that the same term would fit in the service sector or not?

Yeah, you guessed right. It’s not the same. In the service sector, this concept expressed by the term ‘line of business’.
